Commentary:  Working in the tradition of José Guadalupe Posada, the TGP produced satirical calaveras, often to accompany corridos in calavera newspapers. The TGP’s 1940 4 corridos vaciladores de la intervención americana includes prints by Alfredo Zalce, José Chávez Morado and Jesús Escobedo, addressing such topics as the nationalization of the petroleum industry and the devaluation of the peso. Méndez created his sarcastic 1951 Calaveras de inundación, or Arcos y charcos, to denounce rampant government corruption after a devastating flood in Mexico City that kept vital resources from being distributed to the victims.
