Commentary: This image was almost certainly created to commemorate Lindbergh's non-stop flight from Washington, D.C. to Mexico City in the Spirit of St. Louis in December, 1927. It was during his two-week stay in Mexico that Lindbergh met his future wife Anne Morrow, the daughter of U.S. ambassador Dwight Morrow. A decade later, Méndez would surely have despised Lindbergh for his pro-fascist sympathies. (Peter Schneider)
